This paragraph contains details information on Prohibition, organized crime, bootlegging, speakeasies and Al Capone.New laws in the 1920s made alcohol illegal causing prohibition. This was the ban on alcohol and caused most the population to get involved with organized crime and bootleggers(smugglers). The citizens would buy illegal alcohol straight from the bootleggers or from speakeasies which were establishments that sold alcohol illegally and caught up in organized crime. Speaking of organized crime Al Capone was the head of organized crime in Chicago controlling people with violent means to get what he wanted which was mainly alcohol. In the Great Gatsby F scott fitzgerald shows how ineffective prohibition was through gatsbys partys he throws where there is lots of illegal activity.
